Society of St. Vincent de Paul of New Orleans

In 2014, the St. Vincent de Paul Cincinnati Council was selected to pilot a new five-year collaborative Re-entry Program for citizens returning to their communities following incarceration. Thanks to The Catholic Campaign for Human Development, an anti-poverty program of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, pilot programs were established in Boston, Milwaukee, Orlando and New Orleans.

SVdP’s participation in the program allows us to help people who emerge from prison to become productive citizens again.

A unique feature of the program is the combination of approaches to the issue: the Society's face-to-face meeting to identify basic needs and create a plan to succeed, partnered with a community-organizing model.   As the ex-offenders make their way through the program, the expectation is that they will take on leadership positions, particularly as role models and mentors to those coming into the program behind them.  SVdP New Orleans is proud to partner with Catholic Charities of New Orleans for this very important program.
